Clean Cities Success Stories: The T |
The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) has 90% of its 235 buses operating on compressed natural gas (CNG). Cummins Westport, Inc. of Vancouver, B. C., filled The T’s latest order for 75 natural gas engines. The 8.3-liter C Gas Plus engines were installed in new 30-foot and 35-foot transit buses manufactured by New Flyer.
The new transit buses have low floors that provide quick and safe access for passengers who had to climb steps on the older buses. The low floors also make access easier for persons with disabilities.
The natural gas buses will allow The T to retire older, noisy, smoke-spewing diesel fuel buses. This is a strong demonstration of The T’s commitment to reducing air pollution in the Fort Worth area.
